“Libraries are browsing places, dreaming places, finding out places. So much education takes place when children are making choices of their own.” – Michael Morpurgo

The Library aims to be a vibrant study environment in which students have access to a huge range of resources to support them with both schoolwork and homework. It is stocked with 1000’s of popular teen books and an extensive range of non-fiction books, complemented by a suite of computers which can be used by students for research and schoolwork. We actively encourage students, in conjunction with the English Department, to read for pleasure and help them develop a passion for reading and literature.

To quote the author James Patterson, “There’s no such thing as a kid who hates reading; there are kids who love reading, and kids who are reading the wrong books.” It is our Librarians mission to find the right book for every student and to inspire and fire their enthusiasm for reading.

The Library is open every day before school from 8.00 am, every break time and every lunchtime. The Librarians also run a Homework Club at the end of the school day until 4.00 pm. Students are encouraged to use curriculum and ageappropriate books in conjunction with our computers, to complete their homework. This provides students with the opportunity to learn key research skills which will assist them once they have left Nunnery Wood to pursue further/higher education. The Librarians also run a lunchtime club (Library Club) for students who are passionate about anything book related; whether it’s discussing their current ‘reads’, entering competitions, shadowing various book awards or just quiet reading.

The Library’s resources are accessible to students both within and outside of school using ‘Eclipse’, a link to which isavailable on the school portal. Students can check to see if a particular book is available to loan, reserve books and write book reviews. ‘Eclipse’ is also a valuable tool to assist students with homework, as in addition to books, it also contains links to many ‘student friendly’ websites.
