Key Stage 4 Options Process
At Nunnery Wood High School the options process takes place in year 9.
At Key Stage 4 your timetable will be made up of a common core of subjects, which are compulsory, and several others that you will choose.
The common core subjects are:
||Science (Combined or Separate)
||Ethics and Philosophy
||Physical Education (No exam)
You will also study PSHE (Personal, Social & Health Education) through your other subjects and special days during the year.
Students are able to select 4 different options at key stage 4. This may be 3 GCSE or equivalent qualifications and an enrichment activity or 4 GCSE qualifications. The subjects are placed in option blocks that students have to select from.
Students at Nunnery Wood have a designated options pathway. This has been designed to suit the needs of different learners and to ensure that all students at Nunnery Wood are as successful as possible in their current and future education, training or employment.
Students are provided with information about their designated options pathway and the courses on offer prior to the start of the options process.
Information relating to the options process is shared with students through assemblies, a guidance booklet called ‘Future Focus’ and a parent / student ‘KS4 Courses Evening’.
Some of the KS4 option courses that you can opt for may include:
- General Art
- Computer Science
- Business Studies
- Design Technology
- Food Technology
- Separate Science
- GCSE Physical Education
